Open curve spoon knife (right handed)

A high quality spoon knife designed for use with a combined 30 years of spoon carving experience.

They are made from an excellent high alloy steel, very hard and tough so they hold an edge for a long time. They come razor sharp and ready to use. The handles are beech and around 7.5″ long, allowing for a great range of grips to be used efficiently.

The open curve spoon knife is perfect for smoothing surfaces. The shallow curve of the spoon knife translates to a smooth finish on the wood. This works well for everything from carving eating spoons to finishing carved bowls.

A sharp spoon knife will only stay sharp if the edge is protected, we offer a great leather spoon knife sheath for the job, as well as a sheath made from recycled fire hose.

You can see a video of one of our spoon knives in use and the three common grips Robin recommends for using them here.

And whilst the spoon knives come razor sharp and ready to use eventually you will need to sharpen it yourself. This video shows the method Robin uses.

Get all 3 profiles of hook knives and you are set. I have tried so many knives and keep coming back to these! Great work and thanks for an amazing product.

Wow Just got my new open curve spoon crook. Lovely to handle and use and arrived in no time with standard posting. I’ve got the small carving axe and love that too. I invested in the covers and they are of good quality. I hope my spoons match my tools. Thanks

I received this as an early birthday gift. I am new to carving spoons, but know that as with any task, you will only ever be as good as your tools. I have tried it out and it is superb, if I can be nearly as good as my tools I am hoping for some pretty good spoons.

After buying the Robin Wood carving axe which I love, I decided to upgrade my spoon knife to one of Robins spoon knives. Wow so much better than my Mora spoon knife. Better shape, better to hold, much sharper, really holds its edge well and sharpens up lovely. Buy one it will transform your work, you will never go back to a Mora.

At a Bushcraft weekend recently where people were spooning with a Mora, I showed them how quickly my Robin Wood knife removed wood, everyone was impressed and several asked for the makers name.

Outstanding spoon knife. By far the best I’ve used. This after trying several in the past. Ready out of the box and holds up.

Love the work ethic/model from this shop. Very refreshing and to be looked up to.

The spoon carving knife is definitely the best one I have owned so far.
Out of the box it is sharp like hell, for sure my favorite tool for carving spoons.
A little honing once in a while keeps it razor sharp.
    One tip at last:
When carving dry wood it helps moistening it to achieve a lot smoother surface.

Some time ago Bought the Robin Wood axe which has been outstanding and my favourite axe for carving bar none. Yesterday I ordered this Knife and it arrived this morning – brilliant service! I took it straight out to a piece of nice ash and it cuts just like advertised. I will need to practice to get the most out of it but it is a really nice knife and leaves a brilliant smooth finish – I have never been able to get a smooth finish straight from the knife before but with this knife I now understand how it is possible. Simply first class. I could not recommend these tools enough, thank you Mr Wood.

Fantastic spoon knife! I’ve almost carve 100 spoons with it and only had to sharpen once. If you keep it honed it works for a long long time. The handle gives you a lot of leverage and it is easy reach all the way across even the larger spoon bowls.

    Very Good!

This is my first Spoon Knife. It came out of packaging extremely sharp! The first thing I used it on was a scrap piece of Base Wood. It cuts like the proverbial ‘hot knife through Butter’. Paper thin shavings. I just hope I can keep it as sharp.
Special mention of the handle is in-order. I don’t have a lot of experience with Spoon Knives, but many I’ve seen have relatively short and stubby handles. To me this makes no sense. I viewed Robin’s tutorial on using a Spoon Knife and when he pointed out the extended handle and explained his reasoning behind the design, it intuitively made sense. Now, that I’ve had a chance to use the knife, I’m even more convinced I made the right decision. It very comfortable and allows a variety of grasps. The extra length gives you additional leverage for pivoting grasps.

    I’m a happy camper!

A great piece of kit! The long handle adds tremendously to its usefulness, the blade is incredibly sharp from the box too, though with a nice curve and rounded tip.

Aside from that, the fantastic service I’ve recieved and prompt delivery means that I will certainly be back.

    Many thanks

I’ve tried many spoon knives over the last couple of years: Hans Karlsson (previous favourite), Ben Orford (the Barn hook), Svante Djarv and about 10 that I forged myself.

This beats them all – cuts cleanly, accurately, easily, smoothly and leaves a great finish. The handle is comfortable and controlled in use, and the extra length is useful too.

    Very happy customer.
