These knives were developed to do the finishing cuts, refine the form and leave a clean cut texture when carving wooden bowls. We mount them on long 16” handles to give leverage and control.
One of our first prototypes of a new sloyd knife that we are developing. It is a little thicker steel than most sloyds on the market at 3.5mm, and with a 25 degree grind angle that gives it a very wide flat bevel. We find this makes it superb for creating long smooth planing cuts, something that many carvers struggle with.
There are the three simple tools you need to carve a spoon: an axe, a hook knife and a straight knife. This spoon carving kit includes our small carving axe, along with our right handed compound curve spoon knife, and a Mora 106 wood carving knife. Everything you need.
For a left handed spoon carving kit see here.
Axe and spoon knife sheaths sold separately.
A high quality spoon knife designed for use with a combined 30 years of spoon carving experience.
They are made from an excellent high alloy steel, very hard and tough so they hold an edge for a long time. They come razor sharp and ready to use. The handles are beech and around 7.5″ long, allowing for a great range of grips to be used efficiently.
This compound curve spoon knife design is designed for versatility. The gradually tightening curve towards the end of the spoon knife blade allows you to carve most size spoons with ease, from small caddy spoons and eating spoons to larger ladles and kuksas.

The open curve spoon knife is perfect for smoothing surfaces. The shallow curve of the spoon knife translates to a smooth finish on the wood. This works well for everything from carving eating spoons to finishing carved bowls.
A short run of these super limited edition Deep Curve spoon knives. A continuous curve blade reminiscent of our open curve knife, but with a deeper belly for all your scooping desires.
Sheath sold separately.
After many years forging my own tools I have finally started making hooks for sale. The are made from an excellent high alloy steel, very hard and tough so they hold an edge for a long time. They come razor sharp and ready to use. This is the blade only and you’ll have to make your own handle.
This is the right handed blade with a compound gradually tightening curve that I find a good all round shape for everything from shallow spoons to ladles and kuksas.
You can see a video of one of my knives in use and the three common grips I recommend for using them here
And whilst the knives come razor sharp and ready to use eventually you will need to sharpen it yourself. This video shows the method I use.

This is the right handed blade with an open almost symmetrical curve. This is the blade I use for production spoon carving and it is great for finishing cuts on a spoon running down rather than across the grain. It is not quite so versatile as the compound curve knife though.
