These knives were developed to do the finishing cuts, refine the form and leave a clean cut texture when carving wooden bowls. For the bulk of the hollowing we recommend an adze if you have one followed by gouges. We suggest mounting them on long 16” handles to give leverage and control.
To mount them on a handle simply draw round the tang, chisel out a shallow mortice to fit the range then secure in place with two countersink screws.
The steel is the same high alloy steel we use for our hook knives with 1.55% carbon, 12% chrome along with molybdenum and vanadium, it goes through the same rigorous professional heat treat process followed by cryogenic treatment. It should hold an edge for a very long time.
We will be producing left handed versions soon for the time being we only have right handed.
