The Large Carving Axe
It is here! Our long awaited large carving axe. A large head with a long cutting edge, a flat grind for carving and a curvy ergonomic handle. A textured handle gives it beautiful grip in use. This heavier version of our carving axe is ideal for larger work like bowl carving, or for the stronger carver who is looking for something with a bit more power.
As with all of our tools, the natural wood materials and hand grinding means there will be some aesthetic differences in handles and finishes. One thing to be sure of is that they are sure to cut like a dream.

This is an exceptional tool. Quite frankly the best tool I own. Sharp edge, quality material and beautifully crafted. I was roughing out some bowls and spoons for it’s first use and I was saying “what a tool” out loud over and over. Very impressed.

I own the lighter version which I can’t fault, it is a beautiful axe. I found it a bit light for me so haven’t used it much. I was very happy to see there was a heavier version and even more so to get it for Christmas. I have collected 5 axes from various makers and have to say this is my new favourite. It’s a good weight and balance for me. I mostly make spoons and it is heavy enough to make light work of roughing out the blank and balanced and ground well for precision on the finishing axe cuts. Overall I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a heavier axe. I was also gifted the sheath which is beautiful – I thought £17 was a bit pricey for a sheath but it is a thing of beauty and well worth the money.

This axe has made carving out bowl blanks a much more efficient, and enjoyable process. Although a slightly bigger carving axe, still works just fine for making spoon blanks as well! Very pleased overall with this tool
